I stumbled upon a blog of a mom with three boys (my boys' age gaps), who is busy adopting a Russian girl. I went onto the site given by her where you can see photos of the children who are up for adoption.
Man I should not have done that! I just cried and cried. You can narrow down the list of kids. So I put in girls, with blond hair, blue eyes and no specific age. There were pages and pages. About 10 kids per page and I stopped at page 20, cause I just couldn't stand the sadness in their eyes.
If I ever thought that going to the SPCA is difficult, then this just proved me so wrong. How many sad lonely frighted kids are there in this world?! How sad that you can "shop" online for these kids.
Don't get me wrong. I think it's a great means of getting homes for these kids. For adoptive parents to "find" them. Still, how terribly terribly sad for those children.
Just look at this little girl.
She's the same age as Jason. No spark in her little eyes. She is one of the "lucky" ones. She has longish hair, she's pretty. She'll probably, hopefully get loving parents. One can only hope that adoptive parents won't feel she is too old already.
They have shaved of most of the little girl's hair. With most of them, you really don't know if they are boys or girls, especially because they are dressed in unisex clothes.
Oh boy. This just broke my heart.

Tim and I want to adopt internationally after we're done having babies, but I know it's going to be so hard adopting just one. Who knows - maybe we'll end up with three or four. |

Mel. I am one of the extremely lucky people in South Africa to have adopted a little Russian girl from Kazakhstan. She is soon to be three and the love of my life. Its a hard process - made even harder by the beaurocrats of the South African home affairs department. But if I had the money, I would do it all again and again. If anyone is interested, the agency in South Africa that works with Russia, Kazakhstan and Kurgyistan (sp) is K+S Adoptions in Johannesburg. Sheri Shenker is the person to speak to. Their website is adoptionsa.co.za.
BTW - the photos that you see on sites are totally illegal and most of the children "advertised" are merely a ploy to get you to contact that particular agency. Like most things in life, there are scrupulous people and then there are the others. |
